Smrt Education China a joint venture signed as part of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s visit to China


Smrt Education China, a joint venture agreement between Beijing Northern Investment Group and Smrt English Canada, was signed in Shanghai as part of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s visit to China on Thursday.  In attendance were the Prime Minister, the Minister of International Trade, the Ambassador of Canada, Jim Clark, Dr Yang, Cyndi McLeod and Miao Yang.

Toronto Maple Leafs fans finish singing US anthem after technical difficulties

The NHL’s Nashville Predators might have creamed the Toronto Maple Leafs on the ice Tuesday night, but ahead of the game, there was a technical difficulty for the U.S. side. The microphone cut out while a woman was singing “The Star Spangled Banner.” Instead of taking a moment to fix the sound system, the fans in the Canadian arena barely missed a beat at filling in the rest of the U.S. national anthem.

Canada “first choice” for 80% of its foreign students


A survey of more than 1,500 college and university international students in Canada shows that 80% of students had only applied to Canadian institutions for study, a jump from 45% last year and around 50-60% every year since 1999. Opportunities for permanent residency and post-study work were shown to be the most attractive aspects of Canada as a study destination.
